J. & E. Stevens Indian Bear Hunt Mechanical Bank
J. & E. Stevens Company, United States. Cast iron and pigment mechanical bank depicting a Native American figure shooting a bear, late 19th century. The gun can be "loaded" by placing a coin in the chamber and pulling back the lever atop the firearm, which also lowers the head of the Native American in a motion that suggests he is peaking into the scope of the gun. Along the base of the bank, there is another lever that fires the gun and launches a coin toward the slot at the bear's midsection. The bank lacks a door to the coin trap and the figure is missing his headdress.
Height: 8 in x width 10 1/4 in x depth: 3 1/4 in.
Condition: Losses to the paint and tarnishing to the metal. The push lever on the gun and trigger button work well. The figure is missing his headdress. The bank is lacking the cover along the underside.
