Spectacular Triumphant Jesus Christ, Seville, circle or workshops of Juan de Mesa y Velasco (1583-1627)
The work is part of the varied production that, following the current aesthetic coordinates influenced by the trail of the sculptor Juan Martínez Montañés, focused on Seville in the first decades of the 17th century. The model that we present shows the Son of God, with a serene and merciful expression, and a gaze that shows the viewer the resignation with which the Messiah accepts in his flesh the entire guilt of Humanity. The undulation of his hair, his almond-shaped eyes and the slight inclination of his middle and index fingers make us think that it is a work closer to the Cordovan master of Mesa than to the universal sculptor Montañés, conserving children very similar to the current model in the Collegiate Church of Córdoba and the Museum of Fine Arts of Córdoba.
