16th century Seville school - Santa Inés
Polychrome and gilded wood. Dimensions 83 × 36 × 25 cm. Saint Agnes is shown with her lamb at her feet, her clothing richly decorated with gold details and polychromy in soft tones. Her right hand holds a book, a symbol of her knowledge and Christian fidelity. The mannerist elegance of the figure, with its elongated posture, reflects the style of 16th-century Sevillian imagery, in which sacred art sought to enhance devotion through idealized beauty.
