17th Century New Spain School - Coronation of the Virgin
Dimensions: 78 × 59 cm. Oil on copper. The Coronation of the Virgin depicts a vibrant celestial scene, with angels surrounding the Virgin as she is crowned. The vivid colors and the brilliance of the gilding on the halos and crown highlight the religious significance of the subject. This 17th-century New Spain work follows traditional iconographic canons, but with a focus on color and light that reflects local adaptations of sacred art in New Spain.
