Quito School of the 17th century - Virgin and Child, Polychrome and gilded wood
Dimensions: 27 × 16 × 4 cm. Polychrome and gilded wood. Virgin and Child, a sculpture that presents the Virgin holding the Child Jesus, both with richly decorated garments with floral motifs in gold and red tones. The serene and maternal expression of the Virgin reflects the popular devotion that characterizes the Quito school of the 17th century. This work is an outstanding example of the baroque imagery that predominated in the sacred art of the Andean region.
