Torii Kiyonaga (鳥居清長 17, 1752-1815) was a Japanese artist and master of the ukiyo — e heyday of the Torii dynasty.

About life Torii Teenage left little information. His real name is Seki (Sekiguchi) Shinsuke (Ishibei). Kiyonaga was born in Uraga, the son of a bookseller named Shirakoya Ishibei, and studied in Edo under Torii Kiyomitsu, after whose death he became the head of the Torii School.

Continuing the tradition of the Torii dynasty, Kiyonaga began with the yakusya-e genre of theatrical engraving, but he is famous for his works in the bizinga genre. Often they are diptychs and triptychs. The subjects were festive processions, walks, picnics. Kiyonaga worked out in detail the images of the background surrounding the characters of the interior, used the techniques of Western art in the image of space and light.

Torii Kiyonaga owns a large number of works, mainly color easel engravings (over 1000) and about 120 illustrated books. There are such series of works of the artist as "Competitions of fashionable beauties from cheerful quarters", "12 portraits of southern beauties", "10 types of tea shops" and others. His style, characterized by clarity and simplicity of drawing, rich color, realistic images influenced various ukiyo-e masters, such as Utagawa Toyokuni, Katsushika Hokusai, Tebunsai Eishi, Kitagawa Utamaro.
