St. Petersburg. Printing house of V. V. Pratz. 1873. 388 p. Semi-leather binding, 14.5 x 21 cm. The pages are dirty, the binding is scuffed, and the front cover is covered with film.
The present lifetime edition is a satirical novel-chronicle by Mikhail Yevgrafovich Saltykov-Shchedrin (1826-1889), a famous Russian writer of the nineteenth century. This work was first published in 1872 in the well-known journal Otechestvennye Zapiski. Saltykov-Shchedrin wittily and masterfully presents the wisdom of life in his works, and this novel, told on behalf of a young man, was no exception. More accurately than ever, the author paints a picture of the life of St. Petersburg at that time, forming the reader's idea of the era and the mores of society.
