German Civil Award of the Third Reich, established on July 31, 1936.
The medal was presented to ordinary people who did not have a high social status, but who made a great contribution to the preparation of the 1936 Olympic Games. The persons presented for the award were approved by the Reich Minister of the Interior.
The medal was made of silver-plated bronze, copper, iron or white iron. It has a round shape with a diameter of 36 mm, edged with a collar.
The obverse of the medal depicts a column of the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, crowned with five Olympic rings. The imperial eagle with outstretched wings is depicted against the background of the column, in the paws of which there is a wreath of oak leaves, inside of which is placed an inverted swastika. On both sides of the wreath there is an inscription “19” on the left and “36” on the right.
The reverse of the medal is decorated with the inscription in capital letters “FUR VERDIENSTVOLLE MITARBEIT BEI DEN OLYMPISCHEN SPIELEN 1936". At the bottom of the medal, under the inscription, there is a relief image of a twig of four oak leaves with an acorn.
The medal was worn on a ribbon and attached to clothes with a pin on the left side of the chest after military awards. A total of 54,915 people were awarded.
