החפץ חיים נודע בציפייתו לגאולה, ובמסגרת זו עודד כהנים ואחרים ללמוד את הלכות עבודת הקרבנות וסדר קדשים. לשם כך חיבר בין השנים תר"ס-תר"ע את סדרת הספרים "לקוטי הלכות".
את הספר לקוטי הלכות שלפנינו הדפיס ה'חפץ חיים' בעצמו, בחייו. שכידוע שהחפץ חיים היה מתעסק בעצמו בהדפסת הספרים ואפילו במכירתם.
מעבר דף השער כותב מרנא החפץ חיים מכתב תודה לבנו יקירו רבי ארי' זאב הכהן שהוא היה העיקר ראש וראשון בחבור הזה בבירור ההלכות..
