Large female statue (Africa), probably 19th century.
Solid wood female figure with a bowl on her head, regional and tribal attribution not precisely identified, possibly Songye (Congo). Depicted in a standing posture, carrying a large bowl decorated with carvings on her head. Both hands are resting on her bulging belly, which probably indicates pregnancy. She is wearing a necklace and her body is adorned with scarification marks. Together with the eyes, these are highlighted with colored pigments. Height approx. 112 cm, weight: 13.8 kg. With clear signs of age and wear, cracks, old insect damage and a large missing part on the lips.
